Job Description

Design Coordinator

I am working with a leading contractor specialising in building, infrastructure and fit-out projects for a Design Coordinator to join the team on a permanent basis. The business delivers a wide range of building and infrastructure projects across sectors including health, education and secure environments, providing support from early project stages through to completion.

The purpose of the Design Coordinator to support the delivery of coordinated, compliant design on live construction projects. Working closely with the Design Manager, you’ll help manage the consultant and subcontractor design process from detailed design through procurement and construction, ensuring information is fully coordinated, compliant with regulations, and issued in line with agreed programmes to enable timely starts on site. This role suits someone with strong technical coordination experience who enjoys being at the centre of design, commercial and site teams.

Key responsibilities:
  • Coordinating consultants, subcontractors and technical design information across design, procurement and construction
  • Supporting the Design Manager with reviews of consultant and subcontractor design outputs
  • Managing design programmes, approvals schedules and information flow to commercial, operations and client teams
  • Ensuring designs meet company standards, regulatory requirements and budget constraints
  • Issuing complete, coordinated design packages to construction and commercial teams
  • Managing change control, RFIs and design-related site queries through to close-out
  • Liaising with planning authorities, building control and third parties to secure approvals
  • Monitoring design compliance on site through meetings and site visits
  • Compiling handover documentation including H&S files and O&M manuals
About you:
  • Proven experience coordinating design on construction projects
  • Strong technical understanding with the ability to identify buildability and design risk
  • Organised, proactive and comfortable managing multiple workstreams
  • Solid knowledge of current construction legislation and design & build processes
  • Confident communicator able to work across consultants, subcontractors and site teams
  • Full UK driving licence
Desirable:
  • Experience with CAD/BIM environments
  • Professional body membership (CIOB, CIAT, RICS or similar)
  • Relevant Level 4 qualification or above (HNC/NVQ or similar)
  • Exposure to Building Safety Act works or retrofit projects
What’s on offer:
  • Competitive salary
  • 26 days holiday plus bank holidays
  • Private medical insurance
  • Professional membership fees
This is a great opportunity to develop within a technically strong delivery team, gaining exposure across the full project lifecycle. Should you wish to know more, please contact Nicky Harris, RGB Recruitment, Exeter.
