About the Role

Are you an organised and detail-oriented professional with a strong background in financial collections? We are seeking a Collections Officer to join our specialist team, responsible for managing service charge accounts and ensuring timely payments.
In this role, you will oversee a large portfolio of service charge accounts, maintaining regular contact with account holders, issuing statements, and authorising payment plans. You will work closely with other teams to resolve customer queries and recommend legal action where necessary.
This is an excellent opportunity to contribute to the financial efficiency of the Council while engaging directly with residents and key stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage a portfolio of service charge accounts, working towards agreed financial targets.
  • Monitor accounts, ensuring payments are made in line with leaseholder obligations.
  • Authorise and track payment plans.
  • Issue statements and communicate with account holders via letter, email, telephone, or face-to-face meetings.
  • Provide guidance on the legal and statutory basis of service charges.
  • Work collaboratively with internal teams to resolve service charge and lease-related queries.
  • Recommend legal action in cases of non-payment.
  • Ensure compliance with statutory regulations and Council standards.
  • Liaise with elected members, external organisations (such as the Citizens Advice Bureau), lenders, and solicitors.
  • Maintain strict financial control and ensure all transactions are fully audited and documented.

About You

We are looking for a proactive and customer-focused professional with:
  • Experience in financial collections or debt recovery.
  • Strong knowledge of service charge legislation and leasehold management.
  • Excellent communication skills to engage effectively with account holders and stakeholders.
  • Proficiency in IT and accounting systems.
  • Ability to work to financial targets and manage a high volume of accounts.
  • A commitment to upholding the Council’s core values and service standards.
If you have the skills and experience for this role, we’d love to hear from you. Please submit your CV highlighting relevant experience.
