Salary: £108.35 per day
SEN Teaching Assistant – Primary School We are seeking a dedicated and resilient SEN Teaching Assistant to join a welcoming primary school in Streatham, providing 2:1 support for pupils with additional needs.
This role involves supporting children with Autism (ASC) and challenging behaviour, helping them to access learning, develop social skills, and manage emotional regulation within the classroom and wider school environment.
The ideal candidate will be patient, proactive, and confident in supporting children who may present with complex behavioural needs.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide consistent 2:1 support for pupils with Autism and behavioural needs
- Assist the class teacher in delivering tailored learning activities
- Support pupils with emotional regulation, communication, and social interaction
- Implement behaviour management strategies in line with school policies
- Help create a safe, positive, and structured learning environment
- Build strong, trusting relationships with pupils to encourage engagement
- Work closely with the SENCO, class teacher, and external professionals
- Monitor progress and provide feedback on pupil development and wellbeing
- Support during transitions, breaktimes, and unstructured parts of the school day
- Previous experience working with children with SEN, particularly Autism and challenging behaviour
- Strong behaviour management skills and a calm, consistent approach
- A patient, resilient, and nurturing personality
- Ability to remain professional under pressure
- Experience in a primary school setting is desirable
- Team Teach training is advantageous but not essential
- Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to obtain one)
- Passionate about supporting children with additional needs
- Confident working with pupils who require high levels of support
- Flexible, reliable, and committed to making a positive difference
- Able to work effectively as part of a team
