Pastoral Support Assistant – SEMH School
Are you a compassionate and dedicated individual with experience supporting young people facing social, emotional, and mental health challenges? This dynamic SEMH school in Walsall is seeking a Pastoral Support Assistant to join their committed team, making a positive impact on the lives of students who need it most.

As a Pastoral Support Assistant, you will play a vital role in supporting students’ emotional well-being, encouraging positive behaviours, and providing guidance to help them thrive both inside and outside the classroom. This role requires a Pastoral Support Assistant who is  comfortable removing students from classes and helping them to reengage with education.
Job Role:
  • Supporting the emotional and social development of students with SEMH needs.
  • Providing 1-2-1 and group mentoring sessions to help students overcome challenges.
  • Encouraging positive behaviours and helping students regulate their emotions.
  • Acting as a role model and building trusting relationships with students.
  • Supporting teachers and other staff in managing classroom behaviours.
  • Working with parents, carers, and external agencies to support students’ well-being and progress.
  • Supporting whole-school initiatives such as reward schemes, assemblies, and interventions.

Requirements:
  • Previous experience working with young people, ideally within an SEMH, pastoral, or mentoring role.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to build trust and rapport.
  • A calm, patient, and empathetic approach to supporting students with complex needs.
  • Good understanding of safeguarding policies and practices.
  • A valid DBS check on the update service or willingness to obtain one.
