British Sign Lanugage (BSL) Tutor - Haringey

We are looking for an experienced British Sign Lauguage (BSL) Tutor to join a specialist school for deaf students in Haringey. This role involves working across the school’s two sites: primarily based in the Secondary School but also supporting students in the Primary School when needed. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with strong British Sign Language (BSL) skills and experience working with deaf students in a school setting.

Role Overview:
  • Position: British Sign Language (BSL) Tutor
  • Location: Haringey
  • Interview Date: Immediate
  • Contract: Full and Part Time (0.8) considered. 40 weeks per year - Permanent.
  • Salary: £37,068 (Term Time Only Pro Rata)
About You:
  • Qualification to teach Signature Level 1 to 4, or higher.
  • Excellent planning and differentiation skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Availability to work up to 6.00pm on some evenings.
  • Have experience of teaching and formally assessing BSL.
  • Familiar with DCAL assessment.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Work alongside a team of skilled BSL Tutors, teachers and other staff to deliver an inclusive education.
  • Plan and deliver a BSL curriculum up to Level 4 or higher for Deaf and hearing pupils, parents and staff.
  • Provide 1:1 and group communication support for students across the primary and secondary sites.
  • Facilitate communication between students, teachers, and peers using British Sign Language (BSL).
  • Adapt learning materials and resources to suit individual student needs.
  • Support students’ social and emotional development, encouraging independence and confidence.
  • Monitor and report on student progress, sharing updates with teachers and parents. Promote a positive and supportive learning environment.
