Job Description

Maths Academic Coach
£112 – £117 per day
Temp to Perm – September 2025 start
‘Good’ secondary school, Central Birmingham
Pathway to salaried teacher training (QTS)

Want to become a maths teacher without racking up tuition fees? This is your way in.

This school is offering a paid, practical route into teaching. You’ll join as a Maths Academic Coach, support pupils through their GCSEs, and—if you impress—move onto a salaried teacher training programme.

The Role
You’ll support KS3 and KS4 pupils in maths, helping to boost their confidence, understanding, and exam results. Your week will be split between:

  • Running small group and 1:1 sessions for pupils who need extra help
  • Assisting in maths lessons, reinforcing the teacher’s delivery
  • Breaking down topics like algebra, geometry, and data handling in a way that clicks
  • Tracking pupil progress and identifying learning gaps
  • Helping prepare pupils for mock exams and final assessments

The school has a tried-and-tested structure in place for graduates: they’ll train you up, support you with in-class development, and—if it’s the right fit—move you onto their in-house teacher training programme. That means QTS, a full-time salary, and no uni fees.

The Candidate
You’ll need a maths-related degree (Maths, Engineering, Physics, Economics etc.) and a genuine interest in teaching. You don’t need prior experience in schools, but you should be:

  • Confident communicating with young people
  • Able to explain tricky concepts in simple terms
  • Positive, patient, and consistent
  • Interested in education as a long-term career

This role suits a graduate who wants to test the waters in teaching before committing. It’s also ideal if you already know you want to teach but want a route that pays you to train.

The School
This Central Birmingham secondary is rated ‘Good’ by Ofsted. They’ve built a solid reputation for developing future teachers, particularly in core subjects like maths. Their staff culture is hands-on, supportive, and focused on outcomes—both for pupils and for trainees. You’ll be surrounded by experienced mentors, given clear expectations, and supported every step of the way.

They’ve helped dozens of academic coaches become full-time teachers. If you're serious about a future in education, this is where to start.
