Job Description
Would you like a primary school role where no two days look exactly the same? Can you step into a busy classroom and support pupils through 1:1 work, group activities, and whole-class learning?
*** Graduate Teaching Assistant
*** September 2026 – Academic Year placement
*** £107.06 - £111.31 per day
*** Large primary school, Ward of Selly Oak
*** 1:1, small group and whole class support
The Role:
Work across the classroom providing a mix of 1:1 support, small-group intervention, and whole-class assistance. You will help pupils stay focused, back up the teacher during lessons, prepare simple resources, and support learning in core subjects and wider classroom activities. Teaching assistants typically support teachers in the classroom and help children with reading, writing, and learning tasks.
The Candidate:
You are adaptable, organised, and comfortable working with different pupils across the school day. You communicate clearly, work well as part of a team, and want practical classroom experience that gives you a realistic foundation for teacher training and a future in teaching.
Requirements
- Degree – A 2:2 or above in any subject.
- Communication – Clear and confident verbal and written communication.
- Enhanced DBS – Must hold or be willing to obtain an Enhanced DBS certificate. Work with children can be eligible for an Enhanced DBS check, and regulated activity can also require a Children’s Barred List check.
- Desire to work in education/with children – Genuine interest in supporting pupil progress and wellbeing.
- Career Goals – A desire to train as a teacher and build a long-term career in education.
The School:
This large primary school in the Ward of Selly Oak offers a strong setting for a graduate who wants broad classroom experience rather than a narrow support brief. You will be part of a busy school where teamwork, consistency, and flexible support matter, giving you exposure to the pace and variety of day-to-day primary practice. Primary education focuses on the educational, social, and emotional development of children aged 3 to 11, which makes this kind of all-round classroom role a strong stepping stone into teaching.

Apply today with your CV to be considered for this Graduate Teaching Assistant role. Shortlisted applicants will be contacted to discuss next steps and arrange interview. Early applications are encouraged, as the school may appoint before the closing date.
