Job Description

EYFS Graduate Teaching Assistant

Could this be the early years classroom experience that sets you up properly for teacher training? Do you want to work in EYFS and see how strong support helps children settle, engage, and make progress from the very start?

*** EYFS Graduate Teaching Assistant
*** September 2026 to July 2027
*** £85 - £101 per day
*** ‘Good’ 3-Form Entry primary, Ward of Hodge Hill
*** Main classroom support across EYFS

The Role:
Support children across EYFS through a mix of classroom assistance, play-based learning, and early development support. You will help pupils settle into routines, build communication, literacy, and early number skills, and work closely with the class teacher to keep children engaged throughout the day. The EYFS framework remains the mandatory standard for early years provision in England and is designed to help children learn, develop well, and start school with the right foundation.

The Candidate:
You are patient, positive, and comfortable working with young children at an important stage of their development. You communicate clearly, enjoy being active in the classroom, and want practical early years experience that will help you move into teacher training. Teaching assistants support teachers in the classroom and help children with reading, writing, and learning activities, which makes this a strong entry route into primary education.

Requirements
  • Degree – A 2:2 or above in any subject.
  • Communication – Clear and confident verbal and written communication.
  • Enhanced DBS – Must hold or be willing to obtain an Enhanced DBS certificate.
  • Desire to work in education/with children – Genuine interest in supporting pupil progress and wellbeing.
  • Career Goals – A desire to train as a teacher and build a long-term career in education.

The School:
This ‘Good’ 3-Form Entry primary school in the Ward of Hodge Hill offers the chance to build valuable early years experience in a setting where teamwork, strong routines, and purposeful classroom support matter. You will work alongside an EYFS team in a role that gives you day-to-day exposure to early development, classroom organisation, and the practical strategies schools use to help children make a positive start to school. The EYFS framework continues to sit at the heart of early years provision, while teaching assistants are commonly used across primary settings to support pupils’ learning.
