Location: County Hall, Cardiff
Hours: 22 hours per week
Working Pattern:
  • Wednesday & Thursday: 08:30 – 16:30 (30-minute lunch break)
  • Friday: 08:30 – 16:00 (30-minute lunch break)
    Contract: 18/06/2025 – 17/10/2025
    Salary: £13.47-£17.45 per hour

Are you a friendly, reliable, and organised individual with excellent communication skills? We’re looking for a Licensing Support Officer to join our busy Shared Regulatory Services team, providing temporary cover during a period of increased workload. This office-based role, located in County Hall, Cardiff, offers an exciting opportunity to work in a fast-paced environment, supporting the administration of licensing responsibilities, with a focus on taxi driver licensing.

About the Role
As a Licensing Support Officer, you’ll play a key role in ensuring the smooth operation of our Licensing Section. Your duties will include:
  • Processing and determining licence/permit/registration applications.
  • Assessing applicant suitability to ensure public protection.
  • Providing face-to-face, email, and occasional telephone support to customers (note: this is not a telephone-based role).
  • Handling payments, issuing receipts, and recording transactions in line with financial procedures.
  • Managing computer-based and paper information systems using specialist and general software.
  • Coordinating and invigilating ‘Knowledge Tests’ for prospective Hackney Carriage/Private Hire Vehicle drivers, including marking scripts.
  • Collating and presenting statistical data to support service improvements.
  • Maintaining accurate records and updating licensing procedures and databases.
  • Supporting general administrative tasks, including handling incoming/outgoing post.
  • Participating in out-of-hours response arrangements as required.
About You
We’re seeking a proactive team player with:
  • Strong communication skills, able to engage effectively in person, via email, and occasionally by phone.
  • Confidence in using Microsoft Office and IT systems for data processing and email management.
  • A keen eye for detail, ensuring accurate record-keeping.
  • The ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple tasks.
  • A commitment to delivering excellent customer service.
  • Knowledge of licensing legislation and processes is desirable but not essential, as training will be provided.
