Job Description

Clinical Psychologist

Want to shape whole-school mental health with real clinical leadership?

Ready to lead triage, assessment and therapy that improves pupil outcomes fast?

*** Clinical Psychologist
*** Permanent – Immediate start
*** Salary up to £80,000 (depending on experience)
*** School based in the Ward of Selly Oak
*** Lead triage, assessment, and therapeutic interventions, guiding the clinical team to improve pupil wellbeing.

The Role:
You will be the school’s senior clinical lead, turning referrals into timely, effective support. You will run triage clinics, undertake structured assessments, set clear formulations and agree treatment plans that fit the school day. You will deliver brief, evidence-based interventions such as CBT, solution-focused work and behavioural parent guidance, and you will supervise counsellors, ELSAs and external therapists so practice is consistent. You will track risk, write concise reports, and coordinate with CAMHS, social care and GPs. You will train staff on de-escalation, anxiety, low mood, self-harm awareness and trauma-informed routines. You will monitor impact with simple measures, refine pathways and brief SLT on trends so policies and timetables support mental health as well as attainment.

The Candidate & Requirements:
You combine clinical depth with school pragmatism. You make decisions quickly, write clearly and keep interventions tight and teachable.

  • HCPC registered Practitioner Psychologist, Doctorate in Clinical Psychology.
    • Skilled in formulation-driven, brief interventions for children and adolescents.
    • Confident supervising multi-disciplinary teams and providing reflective practice.
    • Strong safeguarding, risk assessment and partnership working with CAMHS and social care.
    • Clear writer and trainer, able to produce usable guidance for busy staff.

The School:
This Selly Oak setting has stable routines and a joined-up pastoral system. Referral routes are simple, response times are agreed, and the SENCO, DSL and attendance team meet weekly to review cases. Staff use shared language for regulation and escalation, with quiet spaces and check-ins timetabled. Data is lean but regular, so you can spot patterns and adjust provision quickly. You will have time for supervision, CPD and service development, plus administrative support for booking, consent and record keeping.

The setting puts staff wellbeing and child-centred practice first. You will join early enough to shape systems, embed standards, and build something with long-term impact.
